When Water Levels Change

When water starts falling it really can change things in a hurry when it comes to effects on fishing.

The levels may be natural or induced but either way it can be a pain in the butt for fisher people.

A drop or rise of an inch wont barely be noticed. However when we talk like a foot higher or lower it can make big differences in the fishing.

When the water drops a lot it takes away good cover spots for fishing. What you need to do now is take a long hard look and envision where the cover may be.

What you want to do is take pictures and take notes. This way when the water comes back up you will have a great idea as to where the fish may be.

Fishing And Wildlife

Have a look at the wildlife around you when you go fishing and you will get a good idea of how the fishing might be.

When fishing gets slow take a good look around the place you are fishing. You will want to watch for things like squirrels and listen for birds. If fishing has turned bad chances are you wont see a lot or hear a lot.

You have to understand that fish are also a piece of wildlife. Many times you can make decisions based on what you see going on above the water.Link
So at the end of the day take the time to pay attention and when it comes to fishing chances are you will catch a lot more once you learn to read nature and wildlife a bit.

Fishing In The Grass

If you are fishing in large open areas and not having a bunch of luck you may want to think of moving.

Many times if you head over to the underwater grassy areas you will end up hitting a honey hole and catching all kinds of fish.

Whats even better is a grassy area that is near deep water. A spot like this could prove to be the best for a long time to come.

The lure you will probably want to use is a top water lure of some kind. Just get out there and do some fishing.

Just remember a bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work.

Fishing And Color

When it comes to fishing it is so important to know and understand what colors to use in different clarities of water.

Between the light, the penetration of light, colors and clarity can make all the differences in an okay trip or a fantastic trip.

The best thing to do is experiment with different colors in different aspects. When something works make sure in some way you record it. Once you knows what works in different situations these will usually work the same way next time as well.

All you need to do is record things by either writing them down or recording them on a cell phone or something. For some people all they need is their memory.

Do what you want but always know that a bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work.

Another Great Fishing Joke

A woman goes into a shop to buy a rod and reel as a gift

She doesn't know which one to get so she just grabs one and goes over to the counter where there's a shop assistant wearing dark shades. "Excuse me sir" she says "can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?"

The assistant replies "Ma'am I'm blind but if you drop it on the counter I can tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound it makes."

She didn't believe him, but dropped it on the counter anyway.

He said, "That's a 6' graphite rod with a Zebco 202 reel and 10 lb. test line...It's a good all around rod and reel and it's only $20.00".

The lady said, "It's amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I think it's what I'm looking for so I'll take it."

He walks behind the counter to the register, and in the meantime the woman breaks wind big-time. At first she is embarrassed but then realizes that there is no way he could tell it was her...being blind he wouldn't know that she was the only person around.

The assistant rings up the sale and says, "That will be $25.50."

She says, "But didn't you say it was $20.00?"

"Yes ma'am, the rod and reel is $20.00, but the duck call is $3.00, and the catfish stink bait is $2.50."

Fishing For Crappies At Night

When it comes to crappie fishing in the summer time a great time to catch some big fish is at night.

If it is legal in your area use lanterns or some sort of light in the area you are fishing.  By doing this you will attract more bugs then you ever knew existed.

The thing is it will be minnows that come up to feed on the bugs that are being attracted by the lights.

When the minnows rise to catch bugs then schools of crappies will come up to the surface to go after the minnows.

So what we are trying to say in this post is fishing below the surface with minnows at night would be a great way to catch crappies.

The most important thing to always keep in mind however is to check your local laws before doing anything that may be against all rules and regulations.

An Irish Priest Loved To Fly Fish

An Irish priest loved to fly fish, it was an obsession of his. So far this year the weather had been so bad that he hadn't had a chance to get his beloved wadders on and his favourite flies out of their box

Strangely though, every Sunday the weather had been good, but of course Sunday is the day he has to go to work.

The weather forecast was good again for the coming Sunday so he called a fellow priest claiming to have lost his voice and be in bed with the flu. He asked him to take over his sermon.

The fly fishing priest drove fifty miles to a river near the coast so that no one would recognise him. An angel up in Heaven was keeping watch and saw what the priest was doing. He told God who agreed that he would do something about it.

With the first cast of his line a huge fish mouth gulped down the fly. For over an hour the priest ran up and down the river bank fighting the fish. At the end when he finally landed the monster size fish it turned out to be a world record Salmon.

Confused the angel asked God, "Why did you let him catch that huge fish? I thought you were going to teach him a lesson."

God replied "I did. Who do you think he's going to tell?"

Learn Casting Techniques

Casting is much like any thing else and it is something you learn and get better at the more you do it. The nice thing is that anyone can learn to cast absolutely perfectly if they are willing to put in the time and practice. We have all heard the saying "Practice makes perfect." In this case it really is true.

You may be surprised to learn this but the best place to practice your casting is on dry land. The thing is waiting until you are at the water will waste a lot of time and very possibly scare the fish.. Every day all you need to do is commit a few minutes to your practice and you will be very surprised how fast you will learn.

pick something in the yard for a target like an old bike rim or something and try and hit it each and every time. make sure you try from different distances and eventually make your target smaller.

Bass And Crawfish

There is no doubt. All the great anglers and biologist and so forth will agree that mature bass love to feed on crawfish.

Not a lot of people realize just how much crawfish are actually out there. While many thing they are almost non existant they are very wrong. You can find crawfish in just about all bodies of water including lakes, rivers, streams, ponds and even dug outs.

Fishermen love catching bass in crawfish rich areas. It seems those bass become much bigger in much less time. The advantage for the bass is they dont need to exert a lot of effort to catch the crawfish. It just seems that bass feeding on crawfish is a win win situation.

Using A Plastic Worm

When it comes to fishing with plastic worms many people dont realize there actually are techniques that can be used to catch greater amounts of fish.

The problem is people tend to real the worm in much too fast. They usually get this happening because they have used other baits that do require faster reeling such as crank baits or buzz baits.

Of course there is an exception to every rule but when it comes right down to it the only way to deal with a plastic worm is slow. You will want to speed up but you just have to keep forcing yourself to slow things down. Another problem when fishing with worms is taking too big of sweeps. The trick to sweeping a worm is use your wrists to sweep instead of the entire rod. Doing this will keep the worm moving slowly but still aggresively enough.
